Bean was forced to limp out of the 2-1 win over Brighton at the weekend and has been ruled out of the LDV Vans Southern area semi-final against Southend on Tuesday.
The 19-year-old is due to have scans to determine the extent of the damage but his absence could open the door for recent signing Dean Marney, who has arrived on loan from Tottenham.
R's boss Ian Holloway has told the club's fans that they should not underestimate how high the club value the LDV Vans trophy, as they are just two games away from a trip to Cardiff.
"We're going well in the league but this competition is about to get serious and I want to win the game (against Southend)," he said.
"We're close to a big day out in Cardiff and that's very exciting."
With Bean's injury causing concern, Holloway added he was confident Spurs youngster Marney could step up to the plate: "We'll miss Marcus but I've got every confidence Dean can do a job for the team."
