Ferdinand is considering his future as his one-year deal at Leicester expires at the end of the month.
Leicester are keen to keep the former Newcastle and Tottenham man, but face competition from a number of clubs.
Portsmouth and Queens Park Rangers are interested in the ex-England international and now Millwall are in the hunt for the veteran striker.
Lions assistant boss Ray Wilkins admitted the club were working hard on making new signings for next season with Ferdinand among their targets.
"We have a number of things ongoing at the moment, but by way of example, the chairman made an offer to Barry Hayles before he decided to join Sheffield United, and we have also been talking to Les Ferdinand," Wilkins told the club's official website.
"We are very hopeful that some new faces will be joining us before too long, and ideally well before the new season kicks-off."
Another player to be linked with a move to South East London is former Chelsea man Jody Morris.
The former Leeds United player is still in talks over a new contract at Rotherham United, where he finished the last campaign following his release from Elland Road.
It remains to be seen if Morris would fancy a return back to London with The Lions.
