QPR midfielder Joey Barton's claim of wrongful dismissal has been rejected by the Football Association and he will now serve a three-game ban.
The Rs had appealed against the decision to send off Barton for violent conduct in an incident involving Bradley Johnson against Norwich on Monday.
"An Independent Regulatory Commission has today [Wednesday 4 January] dismissed a claim of wrongful dismissal from Queens Park Rangers midfielder Joey Barton," said a statement from the FA.
The 29-year-old Barton will now serve a three-game ban starting in the FA Cup against MK Dons on Saturday.
The ban will also deny the midfielder an opportunity to return to former club Newcastle before completing his suspension by missing the vital relegation battle against Wigan on January 21.
Barton responded, as he so often does, on Twitter, writing: "Devastated to miss return to SJP and FA cup tie but life goes on. Feel sympathy for those who have never played yet set the rules......."
