Youth team manager in dark whether he will assume temporary role

QPR youth team manager Marc Bircham does not know if he will be asked to take temporary charge at the club after the sacking of Neil Warnock. Warnock was axed on Sunday after a poor run of results had left the Loftus Road outfit just one point - and one place - above the drop zone. Mark Hughes is the bookies' favourite to replace Warnock and the club are eyeing a swift appointment ahead of the trip to face Newcastle on Sunday in the Premier League. When former boss Jim Magilton left the club in 2009, youth team manager Bircham stepped into the breach, taking charge for one game against West Brom in the Championship.

No clue

When asked if there was any sign this could happen again, Bircham told Sky Sports News: "I haven't got a clue. We've just been told to carry on as normal." The former player and lifelong QPR fan added he had been shocked by the departure of Warnock, who had led the club to the top flight. Speaking at the ground on Monday, he said: "We're carrying on as normal. It was the reserves and youth team in today so that's all we're doing. "(I'm) just really shocked, like most of you shocked at the sad news yesterday of the manager getting sacked. "It's never nice the manager of your club getting sacked but it's the business we're in."
