The 27-year-old, whose QPR contract is set to expire in the summer, moved to Loftus Road from Marseille in 2012 but was part of the side relegated to the Championship and was subsequently loaned out.
Mbia has spent the last campaign with Sevilla, helping them reach the Europa League final with goals in both legs of the semi-final against Valencia.
Mbia thinks the chances of a return to London are slim after leaving in acrimonious circumstances following comments made towards the end of his debut season in England.
He said: "Actually, I have been free since January. QPR had a two additional year's option but once again I had to agree and considering we already parted in a bad way..."
Mbia also believes that Sevilla have shown interest in making his move permanent.
"Sevilla has an option for me to stay and they wanted to seize it several times in the season," he said.
"I have a lot of respect for that team that brought me in the limelight. But I have to see what will happen after the World Cup."
