AZ Alkmaar have sealed a pre-contract agreement with Joey Gudjonsson.AZ Alkmaar have sealed a pre-contract agreement with Leicester City midfielder Joey Gudjonsson.
The Eredivisie title-chasers had attempted to sign Gudjonsson during the January transfer window, but he was keen to consider his options and decided to see out the season at The Walkers Stadium.
AZ resumed talks with the Iceland star's advisors over the weekend and a four-year deal was thrashed out.
The former Real Betis man has experience of life in the Eredivisie, having turned out for MVV and RKC Waalwijk, and is clearly ready to have another crack at Dutch football.
Leicester have no plans to freeze Gudjonsson out between now and the end of the season.
"We are aware that Joey will be leaving the club at the end of the season, however he remains a Leicester City player until such time and I know he will be 100 percent committed to the cause," caretaker manager Rob Kelly told the club's website.
Gudjonsson is eager for Leicester to still be a Championship club when he moves on.
"I have really enjoyed my time at Leicester and I will be doing my utmost over the remaining 14 games of the season to help to keep the club in The Championship," stated Gudjonsson.
Gudjonsson will line up alongside a familiar face next season as fellow countryman Gretar Steinsson has signed a new deal at the club.
Steinsson has impressed manager Louis van Gaal and has been rewarded with a deal which runs until 2011.
