Gareth McAuley has backed Alan Sheehan's proposed move from Leicester to Lincoln.Lincoln City old boy Gareth McAuley believes his Leicester team-mate Alan Sheehan would be an ideal signing for the Sincil Bank club.
Imps director of football John Deehan is known to be tracking Sheehan and while McAuley believes the player is good enough for the Championship, he accepts it would be a noticeable coup on Lincoln's part should they land him.
Of the opinion that his younger team-mate, a midfielder, would gain an excellent footballing education at Lincoln, McAuley believes the move could bear fruit for both parties.
"I think he's good enough for the Championship, but he's not really had a chance here," McAuley told the Lincolnshire Echo.
"He's hungry and wants to play first-team football and, if he feels he's not going to get the chance at Leicester, then it could be a good move for him to drop to Lincoln's level.
"And he would be a very good player in League Two.
"He's young and he's still learning, but he has everything that he needs to be a good player."
