Nicky Adams has returned to League One leaders Leicester following the end of his two-month loan spell at Rochdale.
Promotion-chasing Dale were keen to extend his stay but the Foxes want him back at the Walkers Stadium.
Nigel Pearson's men are entering the final throws of what looks like being a title-winning campaign and want to ensure that they have back-up in all areas.
Adams made a total of 14 appearances for Rochdale, with the last of those coming in a 1-0 victory over Wycombe on Saturday.
He scored one goal for the club, notching on his debut in a 3-2 defeat at Dagenham on 24th January.
