The Foxes are currently five points clear at the top of the Championship after their victory over Leeds United on Saturday.
The 27-year-old has been ever-present in Leicester's rise up the division
and believes that despite confidence being high they will not allow complacency to creep in.
The Dane told the Leicester Mercury: "We shouldn't be afraid to talk about promotion because it is what we all want to do.
"There is a fine line and we have to be careful not to get complacent. Talking about it, keeps us focused and keeps the motivation.
"Victories are the most important things for us. It keeps everyone going and confidence is high.
"We have got ourselves in a good position but the talk is about maintaining it and pushing it on."
It took a late goal from David Nugent to secure victory over Leeds and Schmeichel added: "We knew it wasn't going to be an easy game after their previous results, we expected a reaction from them.
"We stood up well to it I thought and we showed a clinical side something we have probably lacked in previous seasons to pinch the goal at the end.
"Resilience is key for us in games like this. You also need that little bit of luck when things do go wrong that you make the saves."
