Young Brighton midfielder Charlie Harris has joined Barnsley on an 18-month deal.

The 20-year-old has signed for the Sky Bet League 1 club for an undisclosed fee having failed to make a competitive first-team appearance for the Seagulls.

"I'm happy to finally sign and I'm looking ahead to my new career," Harris, who scored once in four appearances during a loan spell with Aldershot earlier this season, told barnsleyfc.co.uk.

"I have a few roots here so it's nice to be up north and in South Yorkshire.

"I'm a box-to-box midfielder and want to help create and score goals. I just can't wait to get on the training field and show the coaching staff what I'm about."

Barnsley head of academy recruitment Bobby Hassell added: "Charlie is another good, young player to add to our under-21s group.

"We really like what we've seen of him so far and he'll add strength to our development group.

"Our core of younger players is getting stronger and stronger, and with Charlie he adds great energy to our underbelly."

Meanwhile, Reds youngster George Maris has joined Lincoln City on loan until the end of the season.
