The Irish defender was substituted at the interval after caretaker manager Glyn Hodges blamed him for Luton's first goal.
Hodges revealed O'Callaghan had disappeared from Oakwell after the substitution and admitted the 21-year-old's Tykes future is in jeopardy.
"Brian said in his programme notes before the game that he likes fancy footwork and playing with the ball and that's what cost us the first goal," stated Hodges.
"Brian let his team-mates down because he's not in the dressing room at the moment. He went straight home after I substituted him at half-time.
"There are a lot of selfish people at this club but there's not much we can do about that. If he wants to play for the club again he must come and see me on Monday morning."
