The Tykes are also close to extending the loan of Craig Rocastle, who has impressed since joining from Premiership side Chelsea last week.
Reds chief Gudjon Thordarson has been pleased by the performances of both players during their brief spells in Yorkshire, and the Icelandic boss is delighted to be close to retaining their services.
Nardiello is currently on the books of Premiership champions Manchester United, but the plethora of striking talent at Old Trafford has severely limited the forward's chances of first-team football.
The nippy striker has been in impressive form and settled quickly at Barnsley, with Tykes chairman Peter Ridsdale having previously not ruled out a permanent deal for the player.
''It is great news for Barnsley and Manchester United that Daniel will be staying with us for another three months,'' Ridsdale told the club's official website.
''It is another sign of the co-operation we are getting from a number of Premiership clubs and we would like to thank Manchester United for their support in this way.''
The ambitious Second Division club are also expected to complete a deal for Garry Monk, a commanding central defender who has been on loan for the previous three months from Southampton. The 24-year-old is expected to seal his switch to Oakwell on Monday.
