Brian Laws has confirmed Richard Kell has turned down an offer to stay at Scunthorpe.Scunthorpe manager Brian Laws has confirmed that Richard Kell has turned down an offer to stay at the club after rejecting a new contract.
The midfielder, who is currently nursing a broken leg, is expected to ink a deal with League One outfit Barnsley in the next couple of days.
''Richard turned down a deal with us to sign a long term contract at another club,'' Kell told the club's official website.
''I'm amazed that a team is willing to offer a long term deal to a player who has broken his leg.''
Barnsley have secured another player as youngster Neil Austin has penned a new one-year deal which ties him to the club until next summer.
Meanwhile, Laws has also confirmed that Cambridge defender Stevland Angus will not be offered a deal, as was originally planned.
Laws has been put-off for non-footballing reasons - despite having been impressed with the player during a loan spell towards the end of the season.
''He had done well for us while he was here, but had a lot of baggage which I feel would have made him high maintenance,'' Laws told the Scunthorpe Telegraph.
''He is still carrying an injury but I wish him well in his pursuit of another club.''
