Tykes make Williamson bid

Barnsley have lodged a bid with Rotherham for midfielder Lee Williamson.

Barnsley have lodged a bid with Rotherham for midfielder Lee Williamson.

Williamson has earned rave reviews for The Millers over the past couple of seasons and attracted interest from a number of Championship clubs in the summer.

Leeds were strongly linked with a move for the midfielder, while Luton saw an offer of £100,000 rejected and described as 'insulting'.

Barnsley have now tabled a bid of £200,000, and are waiting to hear Rotherham's answer.

Simon Davey is looking to stamp his mark on the Tykes squad during the transfer window, and is expected to complete the signing of Grant McCann from Cheltenham this week.

The Northern Ireland international, who has been at Oakwell since late November, is poised to sign a deal spanning until 2009.

Anthony McParland, meanwhile, is set to sign for League Two side Wycombe on loan, with a view to a permanent move.

He has made just ten appearances for Barnsley since joining from Celtic in February 2006.
