Interest in the striker is expected, with his 15-goal return in a struggling side suggesting that he is a useful asset at Championship level.
His efforts were not enough to keep Barnsley in the second tier, though, and it could be that he is offered an immediate step back up the League ladder.
O'Grady says he will wait to see what the summer brings, with there no desire on his part to push for a move.
He told the Barnsley Chronicle: "I don't have a clue what will happen.
"I am in contract at Barnsley, but if the club accepts an offer for me then I will look at it and see if it is right for me. I have to think about my family's future.
"I have no idea whether there will be offers or not, but if there are then it will be a very tough decision to make.
"I have always wanted to play at the highest level possible, and I still want to play in the Premier League, but sometimes you have to go backwards to go forwards and staying with Barnsley in League One is definitely a good option."
O'Grady, who was snapped up from Sheffield Wednesday in 2013, admits he would find it difficult to turn his back on a loyal fan base at Oakwell.
He added: "The fans are definitely a big reason for me to stay here.
"I have been at certain clubs when things have not gone so well and the fans have rightly turned on us. But the Barnsley fans haven't done that at all and that has really helped me personally as I need support from the fans to play well.
"They have had a lot to put up with all season, especially as home, and they have been fantastic."
