Derby County have completed Tom Huddlestone's homecoming in a £2m deal from Hull City.

The 30-year-old has signed a two-year contract with the option of a further year, after the Rams activated the relegation release clause in his contract.

Huddlestone has revealed Hull came in with a late offer to try and keep the midfielder but he says his now former club were simply too late.

Huddlestone said: "Once Derby had activated (the release clause), Hull decided to come and, to be fair, if they came maybe three weeks ago before Derby were interested I'd have happily stayed there.

"But once I got wind of serious interest from Derby, and the manager wanting me to bring me back here, it was a no brainer.

"When I left (Derby) I was very young and it was a club like Tottenham driving me there. When I left I said I'd like to come back at some stage and thankfully I've had the chance."
