Ryan Shawcross's mistake helped Championship newcomers Sheffield United defeat a Stoke side including Darren Fletcher and Kurt Zouma

Kurt Zouma made his Stoke debut on Tuesday evening but his new club slipped to a 2-1 defeat to Sheffield United.

The France international, who joined on a season-long loan from Chelsea, played 45 minutes at Bramall Lane.

Billy Sharp opened the scoring for United after an error by Ryan Shawcross before Xherdan Shaqiri equalised for the Potters.

But the Championship outfit snatched the victory late on when youngster David Brooks turned home from close range.

Izzy Brown made his debut for Brighton as they continued their unbeaten summer with a 3-0 win at League One side Southend

Brighton eased to their third successive pre-season win as they beat Southend 3-0 at Roots Hall.

Solly March struck twice in the first half to put Albion in control before Glenn Murray converted Pascal Gross' left-wing cross.

Izzy Brown, who completed his loan arrival from Chelsea earlier on Tuesday, made his first appearance for his new club, starting on the left side of midfield.

Marc Richards scored the winner after 18 minutes as Northampton beat Derby at Sixfields.

He prodded home from Billy Waters' cross and in a game of few clear-cut chances, the League One side held on for victory.

Teenager Austin Samuels secured a hard-fought 1-0 win for Wolves against Peterborough.

The 16-year-old, who recently returned from a U18s pre-season tour, came off the bench and fired in from Jordan Graham's right-wing cross.

Nottingham Forest came from behind to beat Girona 2-1 at the City Ground.

Andres gave the Spanish team a half-time lead but substitute Apostolos Vellios struck twice for the Championship side to overturn the deficit.

New signing Daryl Murphy also made his debut for the Reds.
