The former West Ham frontrunner is resigned to leaving the cash-strapped Wiltshire side and a number of clubs - including Hull - are monitoring the situation.
"We are in talks with Gary Alexander, he is one of a number of players we are currently speaking to," a club spokesman told planetfootball.com
The 21-year-old striker proved a massive hit during a loan spell with Exeter City two-years ago, but he failed to live up to expectations following his move from East London to Swindon last season.
Now, the cash-strapped Roboins are keen to recoup much of the £300,000 they paid for him and Robins boss Andy King dismissed a bid from Leyton Orient for him only last week.
"I did receive an offer from Orient but something else has come up which means that won't happen," King said.
But while Alexander is keen to stay at the County Ground, it appears he will leave the club in a move which would suit both parties.
"I have to speak to the gaffer about the situation," he said. "I just want to play regular first team football.
"It is flattering to hear that two of the top sides in Division Three are interested and I know the manager is looking at strikers."
