The 0-0 stalemate at Boothferry Park was only sufficient to move The Tigers into third place, fully seven points behind the table-toppers as the visitors continually frustrated their attempts to gain a crucial victory.
Shrewsbury were another of the promotion chasers to stumble at home as they could only muster a 1-1 draw against Macclesfield.
Lee Glover had fired the visitors in front midway through the opening period and Shrewsbury were thankful for a Luke Rodgers effort less than 20 minutes from time to earn them a point.
Mansfield also slipped up at their base as they were beaten 1-0 by Exeter City at Field Mill.
Barry McConnell's 53rd minute penalty separated the two teams, and the result pushes The Stags down to fourth, and puts Exeter on the cusp of the play-offs.
Bristol Rovers' current woes were compounded further in a fiery clash at Vetch Field as they threw away an early lead against Swansea and finished the match with nine men.
Nathan Ellington stole a quick-fire advantage for The Pirates with a third minute opener, but two goals in as many minutes for The Swans tipped the balance as first, Mamady Sidibe equalised, and then, Steve Watkin scored what proved to be the match-winner on 17 minutes.
In the closing five minutes, Rovers' were reduced to nine men as both Mike Trought and Vitali Astafjevs were given their marching orders for two bookable offences.
