Despite being a virtual ever-present for The Posh this season, the club have decided to let the Leicester-born star talk to Hull, due to the player's desire to leave the club.
"Marc is a very important part of The Posh team and we would very much regret his loss, but it does seem quite clear that his mind is made up," said Davey to the club's official website.
"The club will suffer in this instance from the Bosman ruling, which entitles Marc to leave the club at the end of this current season when his contract expires.
"Under those circumstances, it becomes necessary in the current financial environment for us to capitalise on the situation.
"If we were to wait until the end of the season or even a couple of months, it is inevitable we would not receive any compensation for losing him.
"Whilst there is an opportunity for the club to get some money now, which will go into the pot to help re-build the team, we need to do it.
"We have to respect Marc's decision to leave Peterborough United and having reached that decision, rebuilding the team for this season and beyond is of paramount importance."
