The left back, who has been offered a new three-year deal by Iron boss Brian Laws, has spent four years at Glanford Park but is expected to reject the offer and bring the curtain down on his Scunthorpe career.
Despite offering Dawson the new deal, Laws had stated that he thought the defender would leave the club, and now his fears appear to be coming true.
Hull boss Peter Taylor is confident the deal will go through and the 24-year-old will be joining his ranks at the Kingston Communications Stadium.
He told the Hull Daily Mail: "I think that's as good as done. I think he will be joining us. He's an excellent footballer and I'm really pleased to get him.
"We have agreed everything with him and his agent, and listening to them I am very hopeful we will be getting him."
