The Division Three promotion hopefuls made an enquiry for the free-scoring attacker last December, but their overtures were rejected by Rangers.
MacLean is likely to return Ibrox in the summer and is set to be given his chance at the Glasgow outfit as Alex McLeish rebuilds his squad after a disappointing season.
Pearson is set to hand Tigers boss Peter Taylor funds to strengthen the squad for next season and MacLean could be one of a number of targets.
"He's definitely a player that we're looking at," Pearson told the Hull Daily Mail.
"We made an enquiry before Christmas and there was nothing doing then. As far as I know he's going back to Ibrox to be the number three striker there.
"But he's one of a number of strikers we'll be looking at. But then he'd have to be better than what we've got and that takes some doing.
"I'm sure he's on the list to look at in the summer but I think it will be very unlikely they'll let him out."
