The South Yorkshire side grabbed two goals in five second half minutes to seal their promotion.
The first came on the hour mark as Ade Akinfenwa grabbed his third goal in three games to set Rovers on their way.
Just minutes later Paul Green (pictured) - who scored in last season's Conference play-off final win over Dagenham & Redbridge - again wrote his name into Doncaster folklore with another vital goal which sealed the three points and promotion.
Hull City look well on course to join Doncaster after they sealed a 3-2 win at Swansea City.
Danny Allsopp put The Tigers ahead only for Andy Robinson to level on the stroke of half time.
Ben Burgess put Hull ahead again after an hour, but Lee Trundle levelled again for Swansea with just seven minutes left.
The home side could not hold on though as Burgess popped up again to strike with just three minutes left.
Huddersfield missed a chance to enhance their automatic promotion claims as they went down 2-1 at Kidderminster.
Wayne Hatswell put The Harriers ahead after 30 minutes, but they then had Ian Foster dismissed just moments later.
However, Kidderminster reacted well to going a man down as they increased their lead when Anthony Lloyd put through his own net.
Abdou Sall then returned the favour for Huddersfield as he scored an own goal with six minutes left - but it was too little too late for The Terriers.
Torquay United moved into fourth place with a comfortable 3-0 win over fellow play-off contenders Oxford United at Plainmoor.
Paul Wanless's own goal set the ball rolling after 33 minutes and then Oxford's hopes were further dented when Andy Crosby was dismissed just before the interval.
Into the second period Reuben Hazell (63) and David Graham (75) both pounced to seal the victory.
Mansfield Town remain in the play-off spots after they drew 0-0 with Bristol Rovers at Field Mill.
Northampton and Lincoln remain in contention for promotion, as they played out a 1-1 draw at The Sixfields Stadium.
The Cobblers looked set for victory after taking the lead through Paul Trollope just before half time, but with just six minutes left Simon Yeo pounced to seal a share of the spoils for Lincoln.
Yeovil Town's season continues to falter as they went down 3-2 at Boston United.
Simon Weatherstone pounced against his former club to give Yeovil the lead after four minutes, but Kevan Hurst levelled for Boston.
David Noble then gave Boston the lead on the stroke of half time before Adam Stansfield equalised just five minutes into the second period.
The Pilgrims then sealed maximum points with Lee Thompson's goal coming in the last minute.
At the bottom, the game of the day was at Spotland, where third from bottom Rochdale let the lead slip as they went down 2-1 to Macclesfield - who are now six points clear of relegation.
Greg Heald gave Dale the lead after 32 minutes, but two second half efforts from Matthew Tipton (62 & 82 pen) sent The Silkmen home happy.
Darlington remain in danger at the bottom as they let a 2-0 lead go at Southend, who grabbed a 3-2 win.
Danny Graham (6) and Ryan Valentine (33 pen) gave the visitors a comfortable lead at half time, but Mark Bentley pulled one back straight after the break.
Leon Constantine then levelled from the spot - in an incident which also saw Joey Hutchinson dismissed.
The winner came seven minutes from time when Mark Gower powered the ball home.
Scunthorpe United remain entrenched in relegation trouble after a 2-1 loss at Cheltenham Town - who now look safe.
Veteran Paul Groves put The Iron ahead (29), but Paul Brayson (45) and Damian Spencer (49) scored either side of the break to give Town the win.
Carlisle United's recent resurgence continued at Brisbane Road as they grabbed a 1-1 draw with Leyton Orient.
The game was marred by a double sending off just after the break as David Hunt went for Orient and Kevin Gray for the visitors.
The O's went ahead after 69 minutes through Gary Alexander, but Carlisle made sure of a point through Brendan McGill's goal just nine minutes from time.
The Cumbrians are now just one point off second from bottom York and two off Rochdale.
