Peter Taylor's men start the new season a step up the football ladder and the manager knows it will be a much tougher assignment than in League One.
Taylor is believed to be monitoring Millwall stopper Matt Lawrence, but Tigers chairman Adam Pearson says it will take time to make a new signing.
"It is going to take time because the three or four players we are interested in are the sort that clubs do not want to lose," said Pearson.
Taylor has added Curtis Woodhouse and Stephen McPhee to his squad, and both men are eager to prove themselves at The KC Stadium.
Former Port Vale man McPhee has returned from a stint in Portugal looking to prove that he has upped his game during his spell abroad.
"I think the year in Portugal has developed the side of my game that wasn't the best, which was holding up the ball," said McPhee.
"Everything in Portugal was in to feet, nothing in behind so hopefully that's helped that side of the game and I can take that on to the other parts of my game and do well."
