Magpies open to keeper spending another month on loan at Brighton

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew will decide after the weekend whether to allow Steve Harper to extend his loan deal at Brighton & Hove Albion. Veteran goalkeeper Harper has made four appearances during a month-long stint with Brighton which is due to expire after Saturday's game at Championship leaders Southampton. Seagulls boss Gus Poyet is keen to retain Harper's services and Pardew is prepared to consider a month's extension providing Tim Krul and Rob Elliot do not pick up injuries in Newcastle's match at Manchester City. "If we get through the weekend, I'll consider another month," Pardew told the Evening Chronicle. "I'm not sure if Brighton have asked yet, but I'm guessing they will." Poyet had been hoping to extend Harper's deal until the New Year, but Pardew is unsure whether he wants to be without the 36-year-old during the busy festive period. He added: "Whether I take him through the Christmas period, I don't know. We've still got a lot of games. "It's benefiting both parties, and he's got a big game this weekend."
