The Scotland international has had to be patient in his pursuit of top flight recognition, with a steady climb made up the Football League ladder.
He finally got his big break during a trip to Tottenham Hotspur at the end of October, with the misfortune of others playing into the hands of a man who joined the Tigers in February and helped them to automatic promotion out of the Championship.
Boyd has not looked back since breaking into Steve Bruce's plans and believes he has equipped himself well at the highest level - helping Hull to build on a bright start to the season which has them perched in the top-half of the table.
He told the Hull Daily Mail: "I'm still buzzing every time we go out there, it's unbelievable.
"I won't say I've found it easy by any means, but I feel comfortable here.
"You obviously wonder how you're going to get on, but I'm coping with the pace of games well and technically it probably suits my game more, it's more of a passing game here. The Championship can be a bit rough and ready with balls up into the box.
"The big difference is concentration. You've literally got to be switched on for 90 minutes. You come off with headaches you've got to concentrate so much. One lapse and you're punished.
"I feel as though I've done well. Whenever it came it was always going to be a case of me taking my chance, and I feel like I've done that. Long may it continue.
"I hope I've done enough to stay in for Saturday (at Southampton). That'll be up to the gaffer. I've just got to concentrate on doing the best I can in training."
