James Beattie has been reunited with former boss Garry Monk after being named as Leeds United's new first-team coach.

Beattie was part of Monk's staff at Swansea City along with Pep Clotet, with the trio now having been reunited at Elland Road.

The 38-year-old, who spent more than a year as manager of League Two side Accrington Stanley, left the Liberty Stadium after Monk was sacked last December.

"I'm delighted to be here," said Beattie, who played in the Premier League for Blackburn, Southampton, Everton, Stoke City and Blackpool. "It's a huge club and I'm looking forward to the challenge ahead.

"I've worked with Garry and Pep before and I know how they work with the high standards and the values that they'll bring to the club.

"This club has got untold potential to be whatever it wants to be, and we see that as a challenge.

"I feel that the level of training and coaching we can bring to the club is of a very high standard.
