The Atletico Paranense midfielder has been looking for a move to Europe since the finals in Korea and Japan, but as yet nothing has materialised.
Celtic were strongly linked with him, but admitted that they could not afford a deal.
Newcastle were also said to be considering a bid, but Leeds are now seemingly in the box-seat after making a positive move to find out what it would take to strike a deal.
Leeds are now meeting with the player's representatives to discuss a transfer.
Kleberson himself is anticipating an imminent move, but with this in mind he has had to hastily arrange his marriage to fiance Dayane Wilians Da Silva.
The Brazilian is due to marry her next month, when she turns 16.
She revealed that he wanted to have everything sorted before a big move to Europe.
"He told me he would not leave until I accepted his marriage proposal," she said.
Kleberson is expected to complete a move to Europe within the next two weeks, after which he should be joined by his wife-to-be.
