Bastia have set themselves a Thursday deadline in their bid to sign Leeds United outcast Zoumana Camara.
The French defender has been told he can leave Elland Road midway through his loan spell from Lens.
Camara has thus far refused to cancel his contract with the financially-stricken Whites but may accept a switch to Bastia.
Bolton Wanderers have been credited with an interest in the 24-year-old as part of their ongoing quest for defensive reinforcements.
But Camara favours a return to France, with Bastia prepared to hand the stopper regular football for the remainder of the campaign.
Having dropped their interest in Camara's fellow Leeds loanee Didier Domi, Bastia are now racing against time to conclude a deal for the Lens defender.
"We will take our time over Camara," said Bastia chairman Francois Nicolai. "It is not very easy but we are quite optimistic.
"If, on Thursday night though, it is not settled, we will probably choose another solution."
