Leeds United have released Cameroon international Serge Branco.Leeds United have released Cameroon international Serge Branco, after handing teenage midfielder Simon Walton his first professional contract.
Branco signed for The Whites last month after impressing manager Kevin Blackwell during a trial at Elland Road, following his release by Stuttgart.
A 2000 Olympic Games gold medallist, Branco inked a one-month contract, with the option of a year-long deal if he proved himself.
But Blackwell has decided to offload the African before Branco had even made an appearance for the Championship club.
"With what I have seen, and with youngsters like Simon Walton there, I believe I can get as much energy from people like Simon as I can from Branco because for me he's still not of the level that can improve us," Blackwell told the club's official website
Highly-rated midfielder Walton has committed his future to Leeds by signing a three-year deal - his first professional contract.
Walton made his first team debut on the opening day of the season against Derby County and Blackwell admitted there was never any doubt about the 17-year-old staying with the West Yorkshire side.
"Players like Simon are the future of this club," said Blackwell.
"We always knew when we signed him that he was a lad that had major potential and he was always going to be offered a pro contract whether he was in the first team or not."
