Eirik Bakke has reacted with shock to media reports concerning Gary Kelly.Eirik Bakke has reacted with shock to media reports which suggested a plot had been hatched to end the Leeds United careers of Gary Kelly and Michael Duberry.
A Sunday newspaper report claimed certain club officials under the previous regime had discussed the possibility of having Kelly injured in order to make an insurance claim and remove him from the wage bill.
The report also suggested that talk had centred on spiking Duberry's food with cocaine in order to have him sacked for breach of conduct - thus removing him from the wage bill as well.
The stories have since been categorically denied by Leeds officials, but the rumours filtered through to Norway and Bakke was asked for his reaction to the story.
"If this is true, it is frightening," said the midfielder. "But we don't know much about it yet and it came as a huge surprise to me.
"It is a grotesque thought," he said in response to the talk of Kelly being targeted.
"Kelly has been here for 14 years and played 500 matches for Leeds.
"But it would be tricky to tell what I would feel if it was me."
Kelly has featured regularly for Leeds this term, performing with credit, while Duberry has struggled to claim a place under Kevin Blackwell.
