David Healy will miss Northern Ireland's friendly against Portugal with an ankle injury.Leeds United striker David Healy will miss next week's Northern Ireland friendly with Portugal after having an injection to treat an ongoing ankle problem.
The former Manchester United and Preston North End hit-man visited the surgeon on Monday to receive treatment on the injury he picked up in Northern Ireland's final World Cup qualifier in Austria last month.
The 26-year-old avoided an operation by taking an injection on the injured leg joint and the goalscorer will be sidelined for the next 10 days.
"The specialist has delayed any thoughts of surgery and instead, I had a jab," Healy told the Belfast Telegraph.
"I have been told to rest for the next 10 days and then he will have another look at the ankle to see if the injection has been of any help.
"I have been having treatment almost every day since I picked up the injury.
"I haven't trained and now need to rest.
"Anyone who has examined me isn't really sure what the problem is.
"I just hope that something can be done in order for me to get back to full fitness as soon as possible."
