Leeds United have revealed striker Richard Cresswell sustained a knee injury in training.Leeds United have revealed striker Richard Cresswell sustained a knee injury in training on Friday.
The former Preston man was a notable absentee from Saturday's goalless draw with Derby County at Pride Park.
Although the knock was innocuous, Leeds boss Kevin Blackwell has confirmed he will need surgery although The Whites are looking at delaying the operation.
Blackwell is hoping Cresswell might be able to feature against fellow high-flyers Watford on Tuesday before undergoing surgery the following day.
Robbie Blake and Rob Hulse started against Derby, although both are struggling with knocks, however Blackwell has David Healy back from suspension.
"Unfortunately Richard's picked up a niggle in his knee," Blackwell told the club's official website.
"Once the scan came through I knew he couldn't play at the weekend. We are going to monitor it and try and nurse him through a couple of games but it will need surgery.
"It happened in training, it appeared innocuous but it was serious enough to keep him out.
"He might be involved on Tuesday and then go for an operation on Wednesday, at the moment we are still assessing the situation."
