Portsmouth manager Steve Cotterill has confirmed a loan move away from Fratton Park for Michael Brown has collapsed.
Brown has not featured for Pompey since Boxing Day as one more appearance would trigger a new contract on wages the club cannot afford.
The 34-year-old was linked with loan moves to several clubs in the January transfer window, including Cardiff, Crystal Palace and Norwich.
Promotion hopefuls Nottingham Forest have also been linked with a swoop for Brown and the midfielder had appeared close to leaving Pompey.
However, Cotterill has revealed that the transfer to an unnamed Championship club has fallen through due to finances.
Cotterill said in The News: "There are no developments on that one.
"It wasn't financially do-able from our point of view."
