Portsmouth have completed the signing of central defender Jason Pearce from Bournemouth on a three-year contract.
As revealed by skysports.com on Thursday evening, the 23-year-old was on course for a return to Fratton Park and he has now put pen to paper.
Pearce began his career with Pompey but did not make a first-team appearance before making the short journey along the South Coast to join the Cherries in 2007.
The defender was widely expected to move on during the summer following Bournemouth's League One play-off disappointment last season.
Peterborough saw their bid turned down before Portsmouth, who would have been due 50 per cent of any sell-on fee, saw their offer accepted.
Pompey boss Steve Cotterill is keen to build on Pearce's natural attributes and help him make the step up to playing at Championship level.
Cotterill told the club's official website: "He's a young, left-sided centre-back - and there's a shortage of them. He's not just for now - he's also for the future.
"He's tough, he can pass it out of the back and he's got a good strike with his left foot. We're hoping we can develop him into a better player than he already is."
