Defender Lee Peltier has left Leeds United after both parties agreed it was in their best interest.

The 27-year-old former Whites captain had a year left on his deal but suffered a challenging season.

Peltier arrived at Elland Road two summers ago and was appointed skipper by former boss Neil Warnock, but a dip in form led to a spell at Nottingham Forest on loan after falling out of favour under Brian McDermott.

Peltier, who made 27 appearances for Leeds last season, tweeted: "I have now officially left Leeds United football club, just want to thank all the people at the club who have helped and supported me.

"All the fans that have supported me over the two years, and all the boys at the club been a pleasure working with them - top lads, wish them all the best for the season, now time for me to me on to the next chapter off my career and look forward to the future."
