Evans was released from Chelsea this summer, and vowed to show Blues boss Claudio Ranieri that he was wrong to get rid of him.
Southend boss Steve Wignall is keen to snatch the young keeper, and believes that he is in with a chance of grabbing the prodigy.
"I have been speaking with Rhys for a couple of weeks now," said Wignall.
"He's been number two at a higher league club but he feels now he is 21 he needs to be a number one keeper, and I'd agree with that.
"There will be a lot of people watching him in the next game, obviously, but you never know and I feel if you don't ask you don't get."
