Southend United are fifth in the table after a 1-1 home draw with Grimsby Town.Southend United have moved up two places to fifth after a 1-1 home draw with Grimsby Town on Friday evening.
A win for Steve Tilson's side could have moved the Essex club to within a point of third place Yeovil Town at Roots Hall, but The Mariners had other ideas.
John McDermott gave Russell Slade's side a one-goal lead at the break, but The Shrimpers earned a point in the second half when Fredy Eastwood equalised for Southend on the hour mark.
In the other match on Friday evening, Darlington leapfrogged Cheltenham Town and moved into the play-off places with a 2-0 away victory at Whaddon Road.
The North East club's second trip to the West Country in less than a week proved more successful than their midweek FA Cup exit at Yeovil.
The Quakers were given a stroke of fortune with their first goal, as Cheltenham's Jerry Gill redirected Neil Wainwright's shot into his own goal five minutes before the break.
Former Ipswich Town striker Alun Armstrong then scored the visitors' second goal three minutes before the hour mark with a far post header from a corner on the right for an excellent away win in Gloucestershire.
