Southend boss Steve Tilson has paid tribute to goalkeeper Darryl Flahavan.Southend boss Steve Tilson paid tribute to goalkeeper Darryl Flahavan after his fine late save ensured his side progressed to the League Two play-off final.
The Shrimpers were left holding on towards the end of their 1-0 win - earned by Freddie Eastwood's penalty - and Flahavan produced a magnificent stop to keep out a Scott McGleish header.
"It was a great save at the death, obviously it kept us winning the tie. Great stop," Tilson enthused.
"To be fair two or three times in the last couple of games he's (Flahavan) pulled off a save like that, a tremendous save."
Tilson also revealed he had asked his side to be more positive after a rather lacklustre first period.
When quizzed what he had said during his half-time team-talk, he continued: "Just to be more positive and braver on the ball.
"We're a good passing side and when we do that we are a good side and we needed to do it more.
"Scoring so early (in the second half) it was always going to be a close encounter. I said it would be one goal either way and so it proved to be.
"We're half way there and it's going to be an even tougher game next week."
