Boss pulls out of chase to land defender

Shrewsbury Town boss Paul Simpson has pulled out of the race to land Rotherham's Graham Coughlan. Simpson had hoped to tempt the 33-year-old former Blackburn, Swindon and Livingston defender to join him at New Meadow. But after chasing the Irishman for six weeks the Shrews boss has now pulled the plug after failing to complete the deal.

Dragged on

Simpson said: "Graham's a player who I still like, I'm not going to deny that, but things have dragged on for so long now. "I've had to make a decision and I've pulled out of the move for now. "I've spoken to Graham and he's disappointed. All in all it's been a little bit of a disappointing finish to it." Coughlan arrived at Millmoor in July last year following his release from Sheffield Wednesday.
