Shrewsbury Town have signed Graham Coughlan from League Two rivals Rotherham United for an undisclosed fee.
Coughlan has agreed a two-year contract with the Shrews just a month after his move to New Meadow appeared to be off.
Paul Simpson had spent several weeks trying to arrange a deal for the defender and confirmed his interest was over.
However, the deal has been resurrected and Rotherham boss Mark Robins says he was happy to allow the 33-year-old to join Shrewsbury.
"When Graham expressed interest in the move I was happy to allow it as his departure frees up a considerable sum in my budget which will allow me to continue looking for players to strengthen the squad," Robins told the club's official website.
"The coaching staff and players here wish him all the best for the future."
Coughlan joined Rotherham on a two-year deal from Sheffield Wednesday last summer and made 49 appearances for Rotherham.
He becomes one of two signings Simpson had been looking to make before the weekend, with the Shrews chief also in the market for a loan deal.
