Shrimpers offer Moussa, Scannell and Spencer new deals

Southend boss Steve Tilson has confirmed he is in contract talks with Franck Moussa, Damian Scannell and Scott Spencer. The trio are out of contract this summer but have each been offered new deals to remain at Roots Hall despite their relegation from League One. "We've been speaking with Franck and his agent for a while now," Tilson told the club's official website. "We have also been in discussions with Damian and Scott's representatives about extending their deals. "Obviously I want to keep them and hopefully we can make that happen." Belgian defender Moussa, 20, made 43 league appearances last season as the Shrimpers finished second bottom in League One.

Herd boost

Scannell, 25, made 16 league appearances before a foot injury cut short the midfielder's season, while 21-year-old striker Spencer signed from Rochdale in January and scored four goals in 12 games before being sidelined with an ankle problem. Tilson is hoping the trio follow left-back Johnny Herd in extending their stay with the club. The Blues confirmed on Tuesday they had activated an option in the 20-year-old's current deal for a one-year extension.
