Midfielder Gary Deegan has signed a new one-year deal at Southend.
The Irishman has the option of a further year at Roots Hall and is delighted to extend his stay.
"I'm really happy to get it over the line," he told the club's official website. "I always wanted to stay here and the gaffer has echoed that back to me.
"It's important to be performing and playing in pre-season, which will set us up for a big year.
"We have brought in some good additions, which brings a bit of variety and a bit of chopping and changing. We're not looking to stay up, we just want to push on now."
