JAMIE FORRESTER could be bound for Luton Town in a shock swap deal with out-of-favour Hatters striker Steve Howard.
The former Cobblers idol is understood to be close to making a return to Sixfields after falling out-of-favour with Luton boss Joe Kinnear following a fracas involving team-mates.
He had been strongly linked with a move to Carlisle United, although planetfootball.com can now reveal that the two clubs could be close to a deal which will surprise both sets of supporters.
It is not thought that the swap will hit any unexpected hitches as both players are believed to have similar contracts with the respective clubs, and they could each make their debuts on Saturday.
Howard made 86 league appearances for Northampton during his first stint with the club before moving to Luton on deadline day for £50,000.
Forrester, a firm favourite with the Town fans, has struggled to find his feet this season, although his record of 23 goals in 57 leauge starts bares even the closest of scrutiny.
