Mike Newell has urged Adam Boyd to grasp his opportunity in The Championship.
Mike Newell has urged Luton Town's new signing Adam Boyd to grasp his opportunity in The Championship.
The Hatters brought in the striker from Hartlepool United for £500,000 at the end of last month, with Boyd agreeing a three-year contract.
He missed a chunk of last season with a serious knee injury and Luton boss Newell hopes the 24-year-old can rediscover his best form.
Newell is confident that Boyd has the ability to make an impact in The Championship, starting with the opening game of the Football League season against Leicester City, live on Sky Sports 2.
"He proved the year before last, with 31 goals in League One, that he has got quality," Newell told Sky Sports News.
"He suffered last year with a knee injury and didn't come back until Easter.
"He has a lot to prove, but getting him here and playing in The Championship is a great stage for him."
Boyd will be stepping into the void created by Steve Howard's £1 million departure to Derby County and it is a challenge he is relishing.
The striker said: "Stevie's done well, but I'm a different type of player and I hope to do my stuff."
