Seasiders target goalkeeper after double blow

Blackpool will scour the loan market for a goalkeeper after Colin Doyle was ruled out for the rest of the calendar year and Kyle Letheren suffered a suspected broken collarbone.

First-choice stopper Doyle came off in the FA Cup defeat to Barnet last weekend and boss Neil McDonald confirmed on Thursday morning that the news was worse than first feared, with the ex-Birmingham keeper now set to be on the sidelines until January due to ankle ligament damage.

Back-up Letheren is also facing a stint out injured having hurt himself in a collision with team-mate Luke Higham in the attack that led to a penalty for Wigan in the Seasiders' 4-0 loss.

Highly-rated teenager Myles Boney came on and was unable to stop Jordy Hiwula converting the spot-kick, but McDonald is not ready to entrust the responsibility of first-team football on the 17-year-old just yet.

"It looks as though we're going to have to get an emergency goalkeeper if we possibly can," McDonald said. "You can't expect a 17-year-old kid to be in goal right from the start."
