Wigan striker Grant Holt has left the club after his contract was terminated by mutual consent.

Holt, 34, joined Wigan from Norwich in 2013 but a serious knee injury restricted him to just 27 appearances.

"Grant's career speaks for itself, and his experience has certainly been valued here at Wigan Athletic," Latics boss Gary Caldwell told the club's official website.

"In my time as manager, Grant has given nothing short of his all in training and in the matches he has played but, with competition for places fierce, both Grant and the club felt it was best he moved on to get the first-team football he requires at this stage of his career.

"His knowledge of the game and ability has never been in question and I'm sure he will have a lot to offer wherever his future takes him.

"We thank him for his service to the football club."

Holt added: "I would like to thank everyone at the club for their support in my time with the club, I wish everyone at Wigan Athletic all the best for the future."
