Gillingham have signed midfielder Billy Knott following his release from Sky Bet League One rivals Bradford.

Essex-born Knott, 23, one of six players released by Bradford at the end of last month, has put pen to paper on a two-year deal.

"It's been a long time coming, me working with (manager) Justin (Edinburgh) - I went to soccer schools with him when I was six years old," Knott told Gillingham's official website.

"I needed a manager who trusts me, knows what I'm about and somebody who can get the best out of me.

"I can score goals, I like to get forward and get in the box. I'm going to work hard and really enjoy my time here."

Knott progressed through Sunderland's academy and made one senior appearance for the club in the Premier League in May 2013.
