Sheffield United are close to agreeing a deal with MK Dons to sign midfielder Samir Carruthers, Sky sources understand.
The 23-year-old's contract at MK Dons expires in the summer, after signing for the club on a three-year deal from Aston Villa in 2014.
Carruthers - a fans favourite with over 100 appearances for the club - was left out of the match-day squad that drew 0-0 at Chesterfield on Monday.
The Islington-born former Republic of Ireland U23 international began his youth career at Arsenal before graduating from Aston Villa's academy, but he only made three appearances for Villa's first team.
He joined MK Dons on loan in 2013 and enjoyed a successful first season before making the move permanent the following summer.
Sheffield United went three points clear at the top of Sky Bet League One on Monday after coming from behind to win 3-1 at Bury.
