Gary Caldwell is the favourite to take over as manager of Chesterfield, according to Sky sources.

The former Wigan boss has been interviewed along with a number of other candidates and has impressed the Spireites hierarchy.

Sky sources also understand that Kevin Davies is interested in the job, however, and will speak to the club at tomorrow’s match against Coventry City.

Davies began his senior career at Chesterfield and was part of their team that reached the FA Cup semi-finals in 1997.

The 39-year-old achieved his FA UEFA A licence at the end of 2016 and is looking to get into management.
